We launch our tenth sustainability report with the major advances of our Recipe for the Future
We are proud to present our tenth Social Impact and Sustainable Development Report, detailing the figures, results and initiatives carried out during 2023 as part of our socio-environmental strategy.
The report highlights our strong commitment to democratizing opportunities for access to the formal labor market and promoting the professional development of young people in the region. Two years ahead of schedule, we reached the goal of generating 2 million training and formal employment opportunities for young people, a significant achievement that contributes to the reduction of youth unemployment.
In addition, in 2023, we grew our workforce by 7.5%, ending the year with more than 100,000 employees, 56% of whom are women. We also generated over 559,000 job and training opportunities, including more than 67,900 hires throughout the year due to natural operational turnover, mostly for people under 24 years of age with no previous work experience. The report also highlights our daily efforts to promote an inclusive work environment with equal opportunities.
Another of our top priorities is driving the development of our company through sustainable practices: tackling climate change, promoting responsible sourcing and fostering the circular economy. Thus, during the reporting period, we achieved significant advances such as exceeding by more than 30% the supply of clean energy across our operations.
We also reaffirmed our commitment to forest preservation, crucial for biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation, by ensuring that 99.87% of our meat suppliers in Argentina and Brazil comply with the “Deforestation-Free Meat Policy”. In addition, we promote the circular economy, with 90.5% of the primary packaging we use in our restaurants being made entirely from renewable and recyclable materials.
Focusing on enhancing the well-being of families and communities, in 2023, we promoted over 5,000 hours of volunteer work among our employees and increased by 23% the resources raised in the McHappy Day charity campaign, benefiting well-known NGOs and Ronald McDonald Houses in the region, positively impacting the lives of thousands of children and young people.
“Although we still have a long way to go, we continue to constantly evolve our Recipe for the Future. Our purpose, to make every day an opportunity to feed people and build dreams, motivates and inspires us to keep growing, fostering thriving communities and caring for our planet. Together, we are building a more sustainable future,” says Gabriel Serber, our Vice President of Social Impact and Sustainable Development.
This edition of the Sustainability Report also marks a major milestone in our commitment to transparency. Ten years ago, when socio-environmental issues were still nascent on the strategic agenda of companies, we voluntarily decided to report on all initiatives and commitments undertaken to care for the planet and positively impact people and their communities.
