39% of the fresh shell eggs we serve in our restaurants come from cage-free hens
In our commitment to sustainable sourcing and animal welfare, we have made notable progress toward our goal of sourcing fresh shell eggs from cage-free hens by the end of 2025. Currently, 39% of our eggs are cage-free, a milestone achieved a year and a half ahead of schedule, thanks to our initiative in Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, Puerto Rico and Uruguay, where fresh shell eggs are especially popular on McDonald’s breakfast menu.
Cage-free eggs are produced in systems that prioritizes the welfare and health of laying hens, providing an environment where they can exhibit natural behaviors. This method ensures a controlled, safe and balanced environment, allowing hens greater freedom and space in open areas, with nests, resting and stimulation areas, among other features.
This shift to cage-free fresh eggs underscores our commitment and leadership in improving the health and welfare of laying hens on farms, adhering to the highest standards of animal care within the supply chain.
We continue to collaborate with animal behavior experts, suppliers and local small-scale producers in the other countries where we operate, promoting this significant change in egg production across the region.
